End corruption in Tamilnadu Public Service Commission

TNPSC was always known as a Corrupt body since the days of Congress rule. Kids of Politicians and influential always got through the process. Though many able officers had walked out through its portal, there was no transparency ever in the process. Had seen brokers in Government estate where it’s office was located for decades , approach applicants in 1980s and 1990s offering them jobs on a deal. My office was then located next to it.

Ability of some selected officers was termed as the success of TNPSC. Information dept too has no standards in recruitment yet there were many officers, some of them mere school pass outs who have shown great mettle and rose to be senior officers against constitutional mandate. Presence of Talent can never be a pretext for encouraging short cuts in recruitment. The system needs to treat all equal and that’s called Equality and Social Justice. Cesar’s Wife should always be above suspicion. Supreme Court too had come down earlier on the Group #1 selections. Thank Heavens that the scam spilled out now.

Some are now being arrested. Media agog. They may be guilty and may deserve  to be behind gaol. But it’s difficult to believe that everything in a self governing independent commission had happened at the lowest level without interference, approval and directions of those at the top. Are the Chairman and Members who were mainly retired bureaucrats and politically connected , innocent as its being presented? What were they doing if the were not complicit? Worry is those arrested could be scape goats.

As usual, the real culprits will escape. The weak go betweens, menials who took orders will be punished and victimised . But those masterminds who directed the tragedy will feign ignorance and display Buddha like innocence. They will enjoy holy untouchability. And sleep in peace. The big fish gets away while the small becomes the fry.

Cho Ramasamy once remarked that Corruption is not a way of life in our country. It’s the philosophy of our life. It is not easy to root out corruption because we have grown comfortable with it. But for the sake of posterity, we need to have a zero tolerance on the corrupt and appreciate those many honest, hard working, whom I was fortunate to have met in my government service.

Government should reform TNPSC. For the sake of our youth. Meritocracy can not be thrown in the gutter snipes. Standardised selection of competent Chairman and Members of the Service Commission, a non human interface , video graphing of interviews will go a long way in building a skilled, talented and honest public servants for furthering a new Tamilnadu. An anti corruption wing in the premises could help. I believe good things will happen. Let’s trust our leadership.

Miracles of Mahaperiyava - Chapter I

Shri Chandrasekara Saraswathi of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam , the finest among sages of the last millennia, continues to touch and heal the lives of believers going beyond the limitations of caste, religion, linguistics and nations. Devotees are struck in awe when incredible stories of His miracles are shared by Queens and Kings, Presidents and Prime Ministers as well by celebrities of many hue and colour. Having experienced His miracles first hand, I went about on a search to know the other common lives that were blessed by our Sage but hitherto were never revealed in public. This is compilation of a series of first hand reports. Hope you will be inspired by this narration. All the stories are real life incidents and are verifiable. Story #1 KBR worked in TVS group of companies at Madurai. A devotee of Mahaperiyava, he would visit him whenever work permitted but all his decisions centred on the grace of Mahaperiyava. His first child, a daughter was afflicted by polio and he thou

EVR Periyar: A checkup on facts & propaganda

If you were ever revolted by the plethora of roadside statues in India, then credit for this ever rising craze should go to that one man tsunami that brought about that infamous “Statue Culture “ to EV Ramasamy Naicker known as Periyar to his followers. As was usual with Dravidian politics, this focus and obsession of statues  ironically began as an anti idol movement to reason out faith and beliefs of Hinduism to pamper to Islamic and Christian fundamentalists and as admiration of anything western.  Breaking of idols of Lord Ganesha in Salem when Congress ruled Tamilnadu and India during early 1950s didn’t elicit even murmurs of intolerance as Hindus were subdued for over a thousand years and Secular congress was a mere continuation of that colonial British rule that was indifferent and insensitive to majoritarian Hindu sentiments. EVR called Idols as lifeless stones and called out those beliefs of honouring and worshipping them as crass and superstitious. Because of fundamental con

Recent Experience at Kamakshi’s abode Kanchipuram

After going through the trauma of spinal fractures & the surgery that followed it was my first visit to Kanchipuram in three years. Earlier I have had extensive contacts for darshan as a government official but this time we decided we will be just another ordinary disciples.  We had one Chandrasekar, a junior employee now retired to guide us to temples. When we reached Kamakshi temple, we found huge crowd of thousands. I was wondering how we will have darshan of Lokamata but was sure that She will find a way for us. I was apprehensive about standing in the queue as I was scared someone might push me and hurt my back inadvertently. As we paused in confusion, I found a friend who is a Judge of Madras High Court entering the temple in all paraphernalia with his family. I thought of shouting out for him but something deep down restrained me. Our chaperone Chandrasekhar made few honest phone calls and took us near the back door VIP entrance where a hundred were waiting for darshan. Sudd
